DisplaySearch Upgrades 3D-Capable TV Shipment Forecast to 2.5M Units in 2010, Growing to 27M in 2013

Austin, TX (Vocus) April 9, 2010

With the first round of 3D-capable TVs now reaching retail floors and plans for the top TV manufacturers to bring more products to market soon, DisplaySearch has increased its 2010 forecast for 3D-capable TV shipments. According to the latest Quarterly TV Design and Features Report, the market is forecast to grow from 2.5 million 3D-capable TVs shipped in 2010 to 27 million sets in 2013.

“In 2009, we saw the first 3D-capable TVs, with the market greatly accelerating at CES 2010. Now we are seeing the hype turning into real products,” said Paul Gray, Director of TV Electronics Research. “The key issue will be how consumers react to the initial product launch, and what the industry will learn from the feedback of early adopters. Complications in the TV supply chain—especially 3D content shortages—remain the biggest hurdles to overcome.”

The 3D-capable TV market will be dominated in its early years by developed regions, with North American shipments accounting for more than half of shipments in 2010. “3D makes the most sense with the largest screen sizes, combined with a more developed Blu-ray Disc market and 3D broadcast services. For this reason, we expect North America to be the most favorable region for initial 3D development,” noted Gray.

The video processing and extra display performance required for 3D remain relatively costly compared to entry-level models. As a result, 3D is constrained by the penetration of double or quadruple frame rate sets in the market. While 3D is forecast to show rapid growth, DisplaySearch research indicates that only 27% of 40” or larger sets shipped in 2013 will be 3D-capable. Furthermore, Blu-ray Disc and HD broadcast have low penetration in Western Europe, and as a result there remains a content gap that needs to be filled before 3D can flourish.

The DisplaySearch Quarterly TV Design and Features Report is a quarterly update of the issues and fast-moving feature development in TV sets. The 200+ page report examines and forecasts video processor and signal processing IC market development, including 100/120 and 200/240 Hz frame rates and market shares for major IC vendors. In addition, the report features forecasting for MPEG-4 decoding and the digital broadcast environment around the world; TV connectivity, such as wired and wireless networked TVs; LED backlighting; 3D capability and implementation; remote controls and chassis design; and power consumption. In Q1’10 the report also includes details of key featuring of new models launched by leading set makers. The Quarterly TV Design and Features Report is the only report to combine all these aspects of a fast-moving market and to examine how they interact, and it is complete with a database of TV set features for over 200 models in low, mid and high positions in major regional markets.

Learn more about the 3D TV market during at the SID DisplaySearch Business Conference on May 24 during SID Display Week in Seattle, Washington. For more information, visit http://www.displaysearch.com/events.

Nomad Innovations, KPTV, KLAS-TV, and Clearwire Showcase Use of First 4G Broadcast News Camera System at NAB 2010

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) April 14, 2010

Nomad Innovations is showcasing at the 2010 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show its LiveEdge solution for live news content gathering and delivery. Working cooperatively with KPTV (Portland), KLAS-TV (Las Vegas) and Clearwire, Nomad is showcasing the LiveEdge 4G broadband solution over the Clearwire 4G network in Las Vegas.

The 1.5 pound LiveEdge unit attaches to news cameras and enables live coverage for broadcast, cable or the web via high-bandwidth wireless and/or wired broadband networks, all without using a live truck or microwave network. http://www.LiveEdge.tv

LiveEdge enables Broadcasters to aggressively and economically expand their current newsgathering operations globally. KPTV General Manager Patrick McCreery said, “This technology is going to revolutionize the way we do business and will fundamentally change how we collect and distribute live news. This is a more effective and affordable way to ‘Go Live’ with breaking news as well as a unique and innovative way for us to create new revenue generating services.” By utilizing available 4G and 3G networks, the LiveEdge technology will significantly reduce KPTV’s and KLAS’s operating expenses when compared to their current usage of legacy microwave and satellite technology.

LiveEdge sets up in seconds and requires no engineering support. News crews can be on the air with breaking news in a fraction of the time required for setting up microwave shots. Live events can be covered without deploying production units.

LiveEdge offers news crews a robust two-way audio/video/data connection between the scene of a news story and the studio. LiveEdge provides secure connectivity to iNews, ENPS, non-linear editing and other production systems. A return path provides IFB and Intercom via a Bluetooth interface as well as confidence video or teleprompter.

LiveEdge can transmit video via 3G and 4G networks in NTSC, PAL, SDI and HD formats. Nomad Innovations has 11 patent applications pending for its hardware and software.

Bob Klingle, CEO of Nomad Innovations, said “Built by broadcasters for broadcasters, NAB 2010 is where broadcasters’ visions will finally become a reality. Telecast Fiber Systems to Unveil TeleCube™ Modular Interface at the 2010 NAB Show

TeleCube – Modular Fiber Optic Connector

Worcester, MA (PRWEB) April 15, 2010

Belden (NYSE: BDC) — Telecast Fiber Systems today announced that its new, patent-pending TeleCube™ family of 3G transmitter and receiver modules will make its North American debut at the 2010 NAB Show. Developed specifically for OEM applications, the TeleCube system offers broadcasters a highly flexible, cost-effective I/O solution for distribution of HD/SDI signals via fiber optics as well as copper cable.

One of the first developers to launch a product featuring the TeleCube is Marshall Electronics, with the world’s first HD monitors offering direct fiber optic video input. Marshall’s new Modular Design (MD) series of high-end broadcast monitors features two receptacles which can be equipped with TeleCube fiber optic (ST) or coax (BNC) transmitters and receivers. Using the TeleCubes, the rack-mountable monitors can be configured with copper or fiber optic video inputs and loop-throughs that can be quickly and easily interchanged in the field based on evolving needs and requirements, eliminating the need to upgrade or replace equipment when a different input or application is required.

“With Telecast Fiber Systems’ TeleCube modules, our new MD Series is a truly future-proof solution for multimonitor rack-mount installations, providing complete flexibility and reassurance — as well as high-quality long-distance video display deployment — for live broadcasting and sports production,” said Nathan Mordukhay, vice president of sales and marketing for Marshall Electronics. “The TeleCube was the perfect match to our requirements, backed by Telecast’s track record of providing comprehensive systems in use worldwide by the most prominent broadcast networks and TV stations for high-profile live events.”

TeleCube technology will help manufacturers lower their engineering design costs and improve time-to-market for broadcast video technology, because each tiny TeleCube module contains all of the lasers, detectors, EQ, and state-of-the-art line drivers or receivers needed in a compact, integrated package. This allows a single I/O port to be easily and instantly configured as an input or output for either fiber or copper connectivity. The simple TeleCube interface requires just a few square inches of space and a few pennies worth of parts, and gives instant 3-Gbps optical or electric input or output capabilities to any video device, including HD monitors and displays, switchers and routers, cameras, modular DAs, or any other new digital video device. Plus, the TeleCubes are highly serviceable and facilitate easy field repairs and upgrades by end users.

TeleCube modules resemble common 75-ohm BNC connectors and can be easily plugged directly into the PCB using the special mini-pin connector. No soldering is necessary, and the device may be disconnected easily and replaced with one having a different function.

“Marshall Electronics’ integration of the TeleCube modules into its world-class MD Series of broadcast high-definition monitors is exactly the type of application for which the TeleCube was designed — a game-changing product that illustrates how fiber can deliver unprecedented flexibility to broadcast and display products,” said Richard Cerny, vice president and COO of Telecast Fiber Systems. “Marshall has recognized the TeleCube’s true potential for high-quality transport of 3-Gbps signals over copper or fiber, with the industry’s most scalable and flexible input and output configurations.”

The TeleCube modules, as well as the Marshall Electronics MD Series monitors in which they are embedded, will be demonstrated at the 2010 NAB Show at both the Telecast Fiber Systems booth, C8925, as well as at the Marshall Electronics booth, C8931. More information about fiber optic solutions from Telecast Fiber Systems is available online at http://www.telecast-fiber.com.

11th Annual Golden Trailer Awards® Nominations Announced. Awards Show June 10 in L.A. Will Fete Best Movie Trailers of 2010

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 14, 2010

Nominations for the 11th Annual Golden Trailer Awards® were announced today, with nods to promo reels ranging from summer blockbusters including “Iron Man 2,” “The Last Airbender”, and “Prince of Persia,” to dramatic fare such as “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.” The annual live award ceremony will take place at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, CA on the evening of June 10th, 2010. Golden Trailer® event co-founders and producers Evelyn Brady-Watters and Monica Brady, revealed the list today, along with a roster of jurors made up of industry pros, among them Edgar Winter, Marc Webb and Andy Samberg.

Created in 1999 to celebrate the art, craft and fun of movie promotion, The Golden Trailer Awards are internationally recognized as the top honor in the field, coveted by trailer producers, and watched carefully by marketing decision-makers in the industry. But, while the awards are serious business for the winners, for the rest of us they are just plain fun.

Sixteen of the 61 categories of Golden Trailer Awards® will be distributed on June 10th during a popular gala night laced with comedy and entertainment, with host and presenters to be announced. Among past years’ hosts are Dean Edwards, Tom Green, Dennis Miller and Kathy Griffin. The event is open to the public.

Nominations in 61 categories are posted on http://www.goldentrailer.com and are below—ranging from big-budget extravaganzas to smaller, more unconventional reels. The nominating committee selected from a total pool of 954 entries. With 38 nominations, Lionsgate is the clear front-runner for a studio, for films as varied as “Kick Ass” and “Precious.” Warner Bros. follows with 21 nominations. On the creative front, Ignition leads the pack among trailer houses, boasting 46. The nomination categories, which cover movie trailers, posters, and TV spots, range from the expected—Best Action, Best Romance, Best Horror, etc.—to the irreverent, including The Golden Fleece trophy applauding the best reel for a bad movie, and Trashiest Trailer. Additionally, there is a category for Best Videogame Trailer.

The nominees will be judged by a prestigious jury of entertainment pros, including legendary rock musician Edgar Winters, who will be on his third tour with Ringo Starr and the All-Starr Band this summer and whose music can be heard in no fewer than fifteen film and television projects; film and music video director Marc Webb, whose credits include the next “Spider-Man” film, last summer’s breakout indie hit “500 Days of Summer,” and music videos for artists ranging from Miley Cyrus to Green Day and Diddy; Ruth Vitale, who has headed indie film powerhouses such as First Look Pictures, Paramount Classics and Fine Line Pictures, and, as executive producer, has shepherded such films as “Don Juan de Marco,” “The Virgin Suicides,” “Gummo,” “You Can Count on Me,” “Paris, Je T’Aime” and the upcoming “Audrey”; Jennifer Merin, President of the Alliance of Women Film Journalists and editor, writer, and critic for About.com: Documentaries, Women on Film, and New York Press; and writer-performer-filmmakers Andy Samberg, Akiva Shaffer, and Jorma Taccone—the Emmy winning team collectively known as “The Lonely Island”—responsible for creating more than 60 Digital Short Films for NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” Additionally, the group premiered its first feature film “Hot Rod” in 2007, which Shaffer directed and co-starred in with Samberg and Taccone. Taccone is the writer-director of “MacGruber,” opening this summer.

Hollywood Film Festival 2010 Call For Entries

hff2logo

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) May 25, 2010

The 14th annual Hollywood Film Festival, presented by Starz, announces their “2010 Call For Entries” for all of its categories and genres including features, documentaries, shorts, animation, drama, comedy, and horror. The Hollywood Film Festival will run from October 20 to 25 at the state-of-the-art ArcLight Cinemas, in Hollywood. The Festival will be capped off by the annual prestigious Hollywood Awards Gala on October 25, which lauds both annual and career achievements of Hollywood’s emerging and established talents.

“In recessionary times, when funding for independent films is sparse and distribution acquisitions are tight, a festival run is more crucial than ever for the exhibition of promising cinematic works,” said festival founder Carlos de Abreu, “We at the Hollywood Film Festival continue to provide an A-plus platform in the world’s movie capital for burgeoning filmmakers to showcase their passion projects before their friends, film lovers, and the industry at large.”

The 14th annual Hollywood Film Festival will continue to offer moviegoers a full schedule of tributes, Q&A panels and a diverse schedule of works from around the globe.

“It has been an honor for Starz to be the major sponsor over the past few years of the Hollywood Film Festival,” said Stephan Shelanski, executive vice president, programming for Starz. “The Festival continues to grow each year, and we look forward to seeing the current crop of film entries for 2010.”

As is tradition, the Hollywood Awards Gala ceremony will launch the awards season, honoring those artists and filmmakers who are bound to leave a long lasting impression in the months to come. Last year, the Hollywood Awards recognized such films as The Hurt Locker, Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire and Up well in advance of their major Oscar wins. In the last 7 years, a total of 65 Oscar® nominations and 21 Oscars® were given to films showcased and/or to the nominees and honorees of the Hollywood Awards.

The Hollywood Film Festival is proud to continue the Hollywood Comedy Film Festival in its second year as curated by entertainment journalist Anthony D’Alessandro. Last year’s line-up was a great success featuring cutting-edge works with the Upright Citizens Brigade, Zach Galifianakis, Matthew Modine, Chris Kattan, Fred Willard and Tom Everett Scott.
