11th Annual Golden Trailer Awards® Nominations Announced. Awards Show June 10 in L.A. Will Fete Best Movie Trailers of 2010

Nominations for the 11th Annual Golden Trailer Awards® were announced today, with nods to promo reels ranging from summer blockbusters including “Iron Man 2,” “The Last Airbender”, and “Prince of Persia,” to dramatic fare such as “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.” The annual live award ceremony will take place at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, CA on the evening of June 10th, 2010. Golden Trailer® event co-founders and producers Evelyn Brady-Watters and Monica Brady, revealed the list today, along with a roster of jurors made up of industry pros, among them Edgar Winter, Marc Webb and Andy Samberg.

Created in 1999 to celebrate the art, craft and fun of movie promotion, The Golden Trailer Awards are internationally recognized as the top honor in the field, coveted by trailer producers, and watched carefully by marketing decision-makers in the industry. But, while the awards are serious business for the winners, for the rest of us they are just plain fun.

Sixteen of the 61 categories of Golden Trailer Awards® will be distributed on June 10th during a popular gala night laced with comedy and entertainment, with host and presenters to be announced. Among past years’ hosts are Dean Edwards, Tom Green, Dennis Miller and Kathy Griffin. The event is open to the public.

Nominations in 61 categories are posted on http://www.goldentrailer.com and are below—ranging from big-budget extravaganzas to smaller, more unconventional reels. The nominating committee selected from a total pool of 954 entries. With 38 nominations, Lionsgate is the clear front-runner for a studio, for films as varied as “Kick Ass” and “Precious.” Warner Bros. follows with 21 nominations. On the creative front, Ignition leads the pack among trailer houses, boasting 46. The nomination categories, which cover movie trailers, posters, and TV spots, range from the expected—Best Action, Best Romance, Best Horror, etc.—to the irreverent, including The Golden Fleece trophy applauding the best reel for a bad movie, and Trashiest Trailer. Additionally, there is a category for Best Videogame Trailer.

The nominees will be judged by a prestigious jury of entertainment pros, including legendary rock musician Edgar Winters, who will be on his third tour with Ringo Starr and the All-Starr Band this summer and whose music can be heard in no fewer than fifteen film and television projects; film and music video director Marc Webb, whose credits include the next “Spider-Man” film, last summer’s breakout indie hit “500 Days of Summer,” and music videos for artists ranging from Miley Cyrus to Green Day and Diddy; Ruth Vitale, who has headed indie film powerhouses such as First Look Pictures, Paramount Classics and Fine Line Pictures, and, as executive producer, has shepherded such films as “Don Juan de Marco,” “The Virgin Suicides,” “Gummo,” “You Can Count on Me,” “Paris, Je T’Aime” and the upcoming “Audrey”; Jennifer Merin, President of the Alliance of Women Film Journalists and editor, writer, and critic for About.com: Documentaries, Women on Film, and New York Press; and writer-performer-filmmakers Andy Samberg, Akiva Shaffer, and Jorma Taccone—the Emmy winning team collectively known as “The Lonely Island”—responsible for creating more than 60 Digital Short Films for NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” Additionally, the group premiered its first feature film “Hot Rod” in 2007, which Shaffer directed and co-starred in with Samberg and Taccone. To mark Christmas 2010 LOVEFiLM, Europe’s largest subscription service streaming movies and TV episodes over the internet and sending DVDs by post, asked over 1000 of its members to vote for the Best Movie Santa, with Attenborough’s portrayal as kind-hearted Kris Kringle in 1994 Christmas favourite, Miracle on 34th Street earning him top spot on the nation’s nice list with nearly a third of the votes (26 per cent).

A surprising second on the poll with 14 per cent was Billy Bob Thornton’s turn as a drunken thieving conman who dresses as Santa to rob department stores in Bad Santa. The perfect catharsis to generic Christmas film fare, this unlikely festive tale gave the bad boy actor an advantage over other classic Clauses on the list…

Ho-ho-ho-ing into third place with ten per cent is Tim Allen as divorcee Scott Calvin in The Santa Clause; he is disgusted to learn his ex and her husband have told his son that Santa isn’t real. His son’s belief is firmly restored when Tim Allen unexpectedly gets a new job as the big man himself.

Sugar and spice and all things nice, David Huddlestone left the nation’s hearts aglow as Father Christmas in 1985’s classic Santa Claus: The Movie. Supported by an all star cast including Dudley Moore and John Lithgow, the film answered every child’s questions from how reindeer’s fly to how Santa ascends the chimney securing Huddlestone fourth place in the poll (nine per cent).

Miracle on 34th Street appears again in the top ten with nine per cent of the votes for Edmund Gwenn’s original 1947 performance as Kris Kringle. The movie won Academy Awards for Best Actor (Edmund Gwenn), Best Writing, Original Story and Best Writing, Screenplay – undoubtedly one of the best festive flicks of all time.

Others making the top ten Best Santa Clauses include Father Christmases from The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Grinch, The Polar Express, and Elf.
